Job Title: Pilgrim Centre Manager
Reporting To: Senior Minister
Responsible For: Administrative staff, cleaners, project workers and volunteers
Location: The Pilgrim Church, Queens Walk, The Meadows, Nottingham NG2 2DF
Contract Type: Fixed term. Part-time up to 28 hours per week; Tuesday to Friday
Salary: £28,000 – £31,000 pro rata, depending on experience.

Purpose of the Role
To ensure the church buildings are used effectively to support the church's mission and vision. The Centre Manager will provide high-quality operational leadership, managing life-event services, developing a vibrant weekly activity programme, leading the staff team, and securing the funding necessary to expand the church’s community outreach. Rigorous compliance with 2026 employment, safety, and harassment standards will be maintained.
Key Responsibilities
Event Management (Life Events & Hire)
Occasional Services: Act as the primary point of contact for weddings, funerals, and dedications, managing the process from initial inquiry to service delivery
Client Liaison: Conduct site tours for potential hirers and ensure all legal and liturgical requirements for life events are met.
Logistics: Coordinate with ministers, ushers, and musicians to ensure seamless execution of special services.
Third-Party Safety: Implement and enforce a "Duty to Prevent" strategy, taking all reasonable steps to protect staff and volunteers from harassment by visitors, contractors, or event guests.
Centre Activities & Coordination
Activity Development: Design, launch and promote a diverse weekly schedule of community and spiritual activities that align with the church's mission.
Calendar Management: Oversee the implementation of a central booking system (e.g., ChurchSuite) for the Church to prevent scheduling conflicts and maximize building use.
Community Engagement: Foster partnerships with local organizations to bring external groups into the centre.
Staff & Team Management
Leadership: Line manage administrative and cleaning staff, providing regular supervision and annual performance appraisals.
Volunteer Recruitment: Recruit, train, and support a team of volunteers to assist with reception, event setup, and hospitality.
Vision Teams: Co-ordinate Vision Team meetings and collate reports for presentation to the Church Council.
Office Operations: Ensure the church office is equipped with up-to-date technology and that staff are trained in its use.
Fundraising & Project Development
Income Generation: Research and apply for external grants and funding opportunities to support new ministry projects.
Strategic Growth: Secure funding specifically for the recruitment of project coordinators and support workers to expand the church’s community impact.
Financial Oversight: Work with the Treasurer to manage project budgets and ensure all funder reporting requirements are met.
Harassment Prevention: Proactively manage the "duty to prevent" workplace harassment, ensuring all church staff and volunteers are trained to handle interactions with the public and third-party contractors.
Operational Management of Rights: Oversee the implementation of Day-One Rights for new staff, including paternity leave and unpaid parental leave.
Performance Management: With the unfair dismissal qualifying period set to reduce to 6 months (effective Jan 2027, but affecting 2026 hires), ensure robust probation reviews and performance documentation are completed within the first few months.
Whistleblowing Oversight: Ensure internal policies reflect that reporting sexual harassment is now a protected disclosure under whistleblowing law.
Candidate Profile
Experience & Skills
Essential: Proven experience in event management, preferably including weddings or funerals.
Essential: Demonstrated success in securing grant funding or managing successful fundraising campaigns.
Essential: Strong line management experience with the ability to motivate diverse teams of staff and volunteers.
Essential: Ability to work alone as required.
Technical: High proficiency in office technology, CRM systems (e.g., ChurchSuite), and digital communication tools.
Education: Level 3 or equivalent qualification.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for 2026
Increase in external booking revenue by 30% year-on-year.
Successful submission of at least 3 major grant applications per year.
Maintenance of a high satisfaction rating from families using the centre for life events.
Full staffing of all funded project roles within 6 months of funding approval.
Workplace Conditions
DBS Check: This role is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Work Pattern: Tuesday to Friday, 09:00 am – 5:00 pm, with occasional weekend requirements during festivals or special events.
Probationary Period: A standard 6-month probation with formal reviews at 2, 4, and 6 months to align with new 2026/27 unfair dismissal protection laws.
