REV CANON CHRISTIAN WEAVER,MA,CBE

Rev Canon Christian Weaver is the spiritual leader and National Superintendent for the Pilgrim Church, UK. He has a divine anointed call to lead and direct the Pilgrim Church. Rev Weaver is dedicated to the service of God and this is demonstrated in his constant love for his family, the church and mankind.

Born in the sunny Caribbean island of Antigua, Rev, Weaver grew up as a talented artist. As a young man he was one of the youngest police officers enlisted in the Antiguan constabulary. On arriving in the UK in the 1960’s he studied art at Leicester College of Art, developing a skilful eye for landscape and seascape paintings reflecting the beauty of his Antiguan homeland.

Rev Weaver had a divine call on his life in 1960 and took on the role as pioneer pastor at the Pilgrim Holiness Church Nottingham, England in 1963.  He dedicated himself to this mission and call that God had placed on his life.

Rev Weaver pioneered Saturday schools in Nottingham and setting up luncheon clubs for elderly back people. He mobilised many young black men to take up professional qualifications and leadership roles inside outside of the church. Rev Weaver and his wife Daisy Weaver has been married since 1962 and have four children, David, Julia, Mark and Stephen.

Daisy Weaver is an accomplished organist and is well know for playing at various churches in Antigua before coming to the UK. They recently celebrated their diamond jubilee wedding anniversary in 2012.

Rev Weaver has a deep love for people and is a champion for equality and social justice to those who are oppressedand suffering. He holds a Masters Degree in Sociology and a professional qualification in social work – the first black person in Nottingham to hold such a professional qualification. His concern for racial justice has been expressed in his extensive work in the communityas a Lead Officer for Nottingham County Council on Equal Opportunities and Race Equality.

Rev Weaver has served for more than 20 years as magistrate on the Nottingham City bench. He taught Community Studies in FE colleges, and Theology in adult learning institutions. He has also been the Religious Advisor for Central Television.

Rev Weaver has hosted two special services at the Pilgrim Church with the Civil rights leader Rev Jesse Jackson – celebrating the Abolition of Slavery in 2007 and in recognition of the election of President Obama in 2009. Rev Weaver continues to be sought after as a speaker and advisor on community affairs across the UK. He has a love for reciting poems as a pastime.

Recognition of Rev Weavers work and service to the UK has resulted in two national awards by the Queen. Rev Weaver was made an MBE in June 1990 and then honoured with a CBE in 2002. Rev weaver has repeatedly said that the honours are humbling and are to be equally shared with his wife, family, friends, significant others and members of the community.

In 2009 Rev Weaver was made a Canon of Southwell Minister for the Church of England . Rev Weaver acknowledges that all good gifts come from God and that the Lord has given him this great opportunity to serve Him.

“What Jesus really wants from us now is for us to bring home the sheaves. Now this is something we all can do. And let us do this with a difference. Let us therefore now come rejoicing bringing in the sheaves. Every human being is the sheaf. Let’s bring them home to Jesus before the grim reaper strikes. The peoples of the world must be saved at any cost.

Let us acknowledge our past. Let us observe the present and let us continue to seek that better country which is heavenly. Let us heed the exhortation of the Apostle Paul to the Philippians (3:13-14) ‘but one thing I do, forgetting these things which are behind (and of the past) and reaching forward to those things which are ahead….’press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  Let’s remember there are some things that are more precious than Gold! Let’s go for it. It is found in Jesus by the grace of God.”
