Pilgrim Social Action seeks to redress the social ills of our community and world at large through information, education and action

Description

Pioneered by Rev Canon Christian Weaver, Pilgrim Social Action (PSA) is the social justice arm of the Pilgrim Church. PSA seeks to inform, educate and act on social injustices that affect people in our community and world today. PSA is founded on the principles of the Christian faith of loving God and loving your neighbour. This is demonstrated in a social gospel of good works which seeks to inform, help and enable those less fortunate and in need in our society.

In its infancy PSA has established roots with the development of Saturday Schools to tackle under achievement amongst children in the community and also setting up luncheon clubs for senior citizens. Over the years PSA has engaged and championed local concerns over health, housing, immigration, unemployment and crime. 

We are active members of the Hope Meadows Foodbank which seeks to provide food donations for members of the local community. 

PSA is a member of Nottingham Citizens an alliance of umbrella organisations such as community groups, faith based groups, universities, schools and colleges with a joint agenda of engaging in social action for a better Nottingham. As part of ‘Nottingham Citizens’ we have engaged in research around BME Policing, Hate Crime, Social Care inequality, Housing and the Living Wage campaign.

Over the years PSA has been involved in the anti-gun crime campaign - Mothers Against Guns, the Feed150 Project preparing 150 free Christmas meals, looking at economic injustice within communities. More recently which included hosting Civil Rights Campaigner Rev Jesse Jackson on two occasions and more recently providing support for those affected by the Windrush Scandal.
